Coca-Cola brings 3D printing to advertising

Coca-Cola brings 3D printing to advertising | COOL 3DPRINTING | Scoop.it

You always hear about all the revolutionary things that 3D printers will be capable of doing, but you don't hear much about the use of 3D printing to create advertisements. Coca-Cola is trying a new promotion that takes advertising into that next dimension. In a promotion being used locally in Israel, the soft drink company is offering customers 3D-printed versions of themselves.

This is not a human cloning experiment. Instead, customers received a 3D-printed three-inch figurine replica of themselves. The campaign is promoting the new mini-sized bottles of Coca-Cola in Israel.

Mini-sized bottles of soda? I'm sure Mayor Bloomberg would be thrilled.

Coca-Cola is 3D-printing figurines of Coke drinkers in Israel to promote a new line of smaller-sized serving bottles.

"We created 3D-printed mini figurines of our consumers – their own little doll, which looks exactly like them, only in mini," Coca-Cola said in a press release.

You can see the commercial for the Coke mini campaign on YouTube. I have never seen a woman with a tiny version of herself trampolining on her crotch in a US ad, but I guess you get away with that in Israel.

3D Printable Gardening Tool System - STL, Other - 3D CAD model - GrabCAD | COOL 3DPRINTING | Scoop.it

Continuing with the Dreambox Emergence’s purpose of using the 3D printing technologies to bring easy solutions for underdeveloped and rural communities, I’m glad to present the “3D Printable Gardening Tool System”.

This multiple choice gardening tool consists of a generic handle and a bunch of different tools including a trowel, a rake, a seeder, etc

Notice that this is a work-in-progress project and the modes will be redesigned after the printing and testing process if necessary.

This will be also a good option for your urban vegetable garden if you have access to a 3D printer.

The stl files are oriented to be ready to print.

If you have any suggestions about new tools or improvements for the existing ones, feel free to comment. All feedback will be appreciated.

Is 3D Printed Stop Motion Animation the Past or the Future?

Is 3D Printed Stop Motion Animation the Past or the Future? | COOL 3DPRINTING | Scoop.it

By Davide Sher DBLG, a London based creative agency that also offers a bespoke 3D printing and modeling service has launched an interesting stop-motion animated video entirely based on the different poses of a cool, laser-cut-sharp looking, 3D..

As you can see, the project, properly named “Bear on Stairs” depicts a bear walking up an infinitely revolving set of steps. As simple as it may seem, the project requited the support of specialists such as Blue Zoo for character animation and Resonate for the audio mix and sound design. It also opens up some interesting questions on the use of 3D printing for stop-motion animation.

The technology has already been employed by animation giants such as DreamWorks and some time ago a young cinema student found that 3D printing allowed him to create a full short with limited economic means. The Bear on Stairs project, however, is not about cutting costs as much as it wants to stand out as a creative link to the past of animation, when it was achieved by successive hand drawn tables, while adding the physical third dimension to this basic process.

As Visual News reports, each frame of the video is a different 3D printed bear. Which also means that, since what we see in the final result is a three dimensional object moving through time, we are in fact viewing a 4D animated video. Whether that is the future or the past of animation is hard to tell but DBLG achieved its goal just by us posing the question.

Open Source 3D Printers for Small Business - Small Business Computing

Open Source 3D Printers for Small Business - Small Business Computing | COOL 3DPRINTING | Scoop.it

Open Source 3D Printers for Small Business Small Business Computing While 3D printers have been around since the 1980s in manufacturing (they were more commonly known as industrial robots), the big change came just a few years ago.

You may have heard of 3D printers—they've been all over the news. But you may not know that they represent real opportunity for small business owners. While 3D printers have been around since the 1980s in manufacturing (they were more commonly known as industrial robots), the big change came just a few years ago, when affordable models for hobbyists hit the market. Savvy small business owners take note: we're witnessing the start of an affordable technological revolution, and it's just the beginning.

3D Printer Revolution

It all starts with a 3D software model, which controls the printer. Equipped with nozzles that spew material in layers, the printer builds up layer upon layer to form an object. The material can be made of pretty much anything that flows and then solidifies.

The biggest immediate impact is on manufacturing, because 3D printing makes sophisticated prototyping and production affordable and many times faster. Perfecting a prototype or retooling a production line suddenly becomes a matter of changing software code, rather than ripping out entire production lines of machines or machining new tools. It affects the entire supply and delivery chain

3D Printer Revenue to Accelerate in Coming Years | WebProNews

3D Printer Revenue to Accelerate in Coming Years | WebProNews | COOL 3DPRINTING | Scoop.it

The 3D printer market has now emerged from garages and is quickly becoming an industry to watch. Newer 3D printing technologies have now been used to create every thing from houses to dresses.

As the market for 3D-printed goods begins to grow and evolve, the money being invested into the industry will soon begin to grow at an impressive rate.

Market research firm Canalys today released a report predicting that revenues taken in by the 3D printing market will rise to $16.2 billion by the year 2018. This is a significant rise from the estimated $2.5 billion the industry is estimated to have taken in during 2013 as well as the predicted $3.8 billion the industry is predicted to earn this year – an annual growth rate of over 45% for the overall segment.

Right now print-to-order services by 3D printing companies represent a large portion of the 3D printing market. Canalys expects this to remain the status-quo in the coming years as more 3D printing companies pop up, offering clients large and small the low-cost custom building that 3D printers can offer.

This reality will also benefit customers who need custom products produced locally, lowering the wastes and distribution costs associated with traditional long-distance manufacturing orders.
